During the ’80 and ’90, I did a series of wood panels, carved out and painted with gold-leaf and oil
paint. This painting depicts Lilies (a symbol of tears). The shadow cast over the still-life depicted and
moves over a band of pattern and forms. In the shadow, the ‘Horses of Lascaux’ emerge. The
Lascaux caves in the South of France, is prehistoric wall and cave paintings that depict the wild
horses that roamed those parts thousands of years ago.
Here and there they emerge out of the dusty colours. It is as though the walls of the paintings was
also painted by those ancient artisans.
